Indonesian students can study in China on a Chinese Government Scholarship, applying through the Chinese Embassy in Jakarta, or self-funded, applying straight to a Chinese university. The 2027/2028 scholarship round is open now. This guide covers the official channel and deadline, what to prepare, and getting your degree recognised when you come home.
The Chinese Government Scholarship through the embassy
The Chinese Embassy in Indonesia opened the 2027/2028 round on 27 October 2026:
- Deadline: submit the online application at campuschina.org and upload its documents before 14 February 2027. Indonesia's agency number is 3602. No paper copies go to the embassy.
- China–Indonesia Scholarship in Higher Education Program: 20 places for bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs, for majors such as marine studies, medicine, health, tourism and education. It is a full scholarship but does not cover international travel.
- Timeline: from 15 February to 1 March 2027 the embassy sends recommended applications to the China Scholarship Council. In July and August 2027 applicants check results in the system, and winners download their admission notice and JW201 visa form.
- One scholarship only: Chinese Government Scholarship students may not hold other Chinese government or university scholarships at the same time, apart from one-time awards.
You can also apply for a Chinese Government Scholarship place directly through a Chinese university (Type B), which sets its own deadline.

Getting your degree recognised in Indonesia
Indonesia's higher education ministry recognises foreign degrees through its foreign diploma equivalence service (penyetaraan ijazah luar negeri), under Ministerial Regulation No. 6 of 2022. It is done online, and the ministry also converts your grade point average to the Indonesian scale. If your transcript shows grades and credits for each course, the ministry asks you to request the GPA conversion together with the equivalence.
MBBS: becoming a doctor in Indonesia
Indonesian doctors who graduate abroad go through the Ministry of Health's adaptation program before they practise. In December 2024 the ministry said registration is now online at lln.kemkes.go.id, adaptation lasts at most 12 months and takes place in health facilities rather than universities, and doctors with at least two years of practice can have their competence assessed by portfolio. Check the current rules with the Ministry of Health before you choose an MBBS program. Our MBBS guide lists the universities on China's MBBS list and their checked fees.
